Dr. John Rubino has 30 years of experience in clinical research. Since initiating clinical research activities within Raleigh Medical Group in 1989, he has served as principal investigator for more than 600 trials across internal medicine including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, obesity, migraine, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, musculoskeletal conditions, urological disorders, and vaccine trials. He has several publications and presentations related to his research activity.
John has also been very involved in the evolution of healthcare toward value-based medicine. He has worked with Key Physicians, a large Independent Physician Association in Wake County, NC for 20 years and is a past president of this organization. He also led a joint venture between Key Physicians and WakeMed forming the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) WakeMed Key Community Care (WKCC). He served as Chairman of WKCC, which has become one of the largest and most successful ACOs in the country. His experience in the areas of research and population medicine give John a special appreciation of how research participation enhances medical care and contributes greatly to the value of healthcare for patients.
John has a B.S., M.S. and M.D. from the University of Connecticut. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
