KOLO 8: NVHC, Javara Enrolling For Norovirus Clinical Trial
KOLO Channel 8 Story Highlights Nevada Health Centers, Javara Partnership and Enrollment for Norovirus Clinical Trial Opportunity
NVHC, Nevada’s largest Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) program, joined forces with Javara in 2023 to launch a clinical trials program to bring clinical research as a care option to Nevadans, beginning in the greater Carson City area.
Currently, Nevada Health Centers and Javara are actively seeking participants to join a norovirus vaccine clinical trial to develop an effective vaccine to prevent this disease. Norovirus is a highly contagious pathogen that can cause a variety of unpleasant symptoms including acute vomiting and diarrhea, as well as more serious complications among certain age groups or those with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, there are 2,500 norovirus outbreaks in the U.S. each year, and the virus is responsible for 58% of foodborne illnesses.
