Javara Announces Expansion Into Oncology

New Oncology Clinical Trial Brings Advanced Treatment Options to Fayetteville Patients

[Winston-Salem, NC — February 25, 2025] Patients in the Fayetteville region will soon have greater access to cutting-edge cancer treatments close to home through a new oncology clinical trial partnership between Javara, Cape Fear Valley Health and the Cape Fear Valley Research Institute.

Javara, a U.S. clinical research site network that delivers clinical trials at the point of care, announced its first oncology clinical trial award, a sponsored study from a top five pharmaceutical company in oncology research, in collaboration with the Fayetteville-based health system.

The study focuses on triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease that accounts for approximately 10% to 15% of breast cancer diagnoses and does not respond to some of the most common targeted therapies.

For many patients in southeastern North Carolina, participation in oncology clinical trials has historically required travel to larger academic medical centers outside the region. Leaders say this partnership helps remove that barrier by bringing advanced research directly to the community.

Dr. Kenneth Manning to serve as Principal Investigator

Dr. Kenneth Manning will serve as the principal investigator for the trial at Cape Fear Valley Health.

“For patients in Fayetteville facing aggressive cancers like triple-negative breast cancer, access to clinical research can mean everything,” Manning said. “This trial brings hope and advanced care options to a community that has too often gone without them. It’s a major step forward for our patients at Cape Fear Valley Health.”

The study is designed for patients who have already undergone treatment and surgery but still have remaining cancer cells, a group that may face a higher risk of recurrence. Researchers are evaluating whether newer, more targeted medicines, including therapies that may help the immune system fight cancer, can more effectively eliminate residual disease compared with current standard treatments.

Javara CEO Shares on Community Care & World-Class Oncology

“This trial is the result of what happens when trusted community care and world-class oncology innovation come together,” said Jennifer Byrne, founder and CEO of Javara.

“Our partnership with Cape Fear Valley Health, launched last summer, was designed to bring research opportunities closer to patients, and this oncology award shows the power of that model. Working alongside a top five pharmaceutical company in oncology research, we’re expanding access to cutting-edge care where it’s needed most.”

Cape Fear Valley Research Institute’s Jennifer Burgess to Help Drive Partnership

Jennifer Burgess, director of clinical research at the Cape Fear Valley Research Institute, said the collaboration represents an important step forward for research growth in the region.

“As we embark on this new oncology trial, we are excited to bring more clinical trials research to this community,” Burgess said. “Having Javara as our partner will be a key component of moving research forward for our patients.”

The award marks the beginning of Javara’s broader oncology research footprint across community health systems, bringing clinical trials closer to patients where they already receive care.
